Blaxland Rae

Better known for their single and twin cylinder inboard engines, Blaxland Rae of 185-189 Salisbury Road, Camperdown, NSW also marketed a 4 ½ hp single cylinder, water-cooled outboard motor for a short period of time.

The Blaxland Rae outboard featured a Hurricane Model 200 engine with cast aluminium shroud, recoil starter and rear mounted cylindrical fuel tank. The engine sat above a Clipper mid-section (See also CLIPPER) with a purpose built gearbox, water-pump housing and propeller assembly; components that were unique to Hurricane and Blaxland Rae branded outboard motors only.

Having a combined drive and exhaust tube, the Blaxland Rae outboard could be turned through 360 degrees, thereby allowing reverse propulsion without the need for a reverse gear.

Unlike their inboard engines which were generally finished in a bright red, all Blaxland Rae outboards observed so far have been finished in a medium blue hammertone.
