Tornado (Seacraft Tornado)

  • 1945 to 1958 Seacraft Manufacturing Company.
  • 1958 to 1979 Seacraft Manufacturing Company Pty. Ltd.
  • 1980 to 2010 Seacraft Ski Boats.

After the second World War, friends Charlie Tull and Gil Nicholls registered the SEACRAFT Manufacturing Company and the EZY-CUT Tool Company. They built two houses (with sheds) side by side at Eveline Avenue Parkdale and proceeded to design and manufacture various EZY-CUT power tool products. They also built plywood yachts there and were keen sailors.

In 1952 they built a factory at White Street Mordialloc. Charlie and Gil continued to produce power tools, small plywood dinghies and outboard motors (Seacraft Tornado) to compliment the dinghies. Sales of the power tool products were mainly through the larger hardware stores, with Gil’s son Jack involved in marketing of the products directly to stores.

In 1955 another factory was built at 3 Wells Road Mordialloc. Charlie continued there designing and developing SEACRAFT boats for the remainder of his working life. His Ski Boats remain highly desirable to this day. Gil continued at EZY-CUT.

The images below show the most recent Seacraft Tornado 75 Outboard model. ealier versions comprised an alternative pressed cowl and were without the underwater exhaust.

Image below shows one of very few 'outboard powered' Seacraft runabouts ever made. It may in fact be the only one!. The outboard installed is a 7.5hp Riptide Sportsman.
